The Facilitators’ Guide provides guidance and tools for working with adolescents to support them in developing and using the 10 Key Competencies. It outlines the role of facilitators, and how they can put the 10 Key Approaches into action.

The Facilitator’s Guide:

  • Introduces the Adolescent Circles approach to bring adolescents together in groups in which they can learn and practice competencies and carry out projects together.
  • Describes ways to make adolescents feel safe and supported in their circles.
  • Explains how to structure and plan activity sessions with adolescents that balance structure with space for creativity and expression.
  • Gives an overview of the Four Phases – flexible activity modules for different groups of adolescents – and how to choose and plan phases based on adolescents’ circumstances, level of learning and interests.

As a supplement to the Facilitator’s Guide, check out the Facilitator Tools. These are useful tools for planning and facilitating sessions with adolescents, including a topic bank with a list of additional ideas that can be integrated into activities and emotion cards to help adolescents identify and communicate their emotions.

Who is the Facilitators’ Guide for?

The Facilitators’ Guide is for anyone who works directly with adolescent girls and boys to facilitate activities for their psychosocial wellbeing, learning and positive engagement with each other and the world around them.

If you are a facilitator, you will also want to check out the Activity Box to explore ideas and tools for activities using the Kit.
